Dear friends, I’m a bit of a lash fiend! I’ve been rocking fake lashes since my college days and have, through trial and error, figured out the best way to apply them and have them hold for a day or night out. I have to admit, though, that the traditional way of applying a thin line of sticky glue to the lash band and then gingerly placing the lashes on your lash line can be challenging to even the most seasoned lashaholic! Well, the answer to the most lash-challenged amongst us is here: magnetic lashes!!

I was a little leery at first when I heard about this new trend; how can magnetic lashes possibly work or last? The first iteration of magnetic lashes was a bit of a fail. They were the type where you sandwich your own lashes between two sets of magnetized lashes. That may all sound well and good, but wait till you try to do it! If you are the “Cirque du Soleil” acrobatic master of lashes, they may have worked for you but I just found them too clunky and difficult to apply. In addition, they just didn’t hold or stay in place!

Fast forward about a year, and now we have magnetic lashes that apply with a line of magnetic liquid or cream liner. So, for your viewing pleasure, I have reviewed three drugstore brands of these lashes for you! The grand reveal of my favorite is at the end! Enjoy!!

The contenders: Eyelure // Kiss // Ardell

MAGNETIC LASH #1 (Eyelure Promagnetic System)

These Eyelure lashes are applied after drawing a thin line of liquid liner to your lashline. The liner is easy enough to apply, but you have to apply three coats (allowing each to dry in between) and then apply the lashes on top of the liner. While I absolutely loved the look of the actual lashes, I found the application to be a little time consuming and the liner ended up looking a little “chunky.” The lashes did last all evening for me. Removal of the liner took a bit of effort since there were several layers of caked on liner.

MAGNETIC LASH #2 (Kiss Magnetic Eyeliner and Lashes)

These Kiss lashes are applied in a similar fashion as the Eyelure set. However, you only need to apply one layer of the magnetic liner with them, which was a relief! The liner was smooth and easy to apply. You can draw a thin line or a thick swath, depending on your taste. I tend to prefer a thicker cat-eye look, so that’s what I did here. I did end up selecting a different pair of lashes from the one that came with the set, since I wanted a slightly more dramatic style that would compare to the other two styles that I was reviewing. The lashes were pretty and fluttery and they had five magnets on each lash vs. four magnets for the other two styles. While the one layer application of the liner was convenient, I do think that it made it hold the lashes less securely; my lashes were “lifting” at the inner corners by the end of the evening. Not the end of the world, but thought I should mention that!

MAGNETIC LASH #3 (Ardell Magnetic Liner & Lashes)

This Ardell set of lashes is applied a little differently than the other two styles. Instead of a liquid liner, this set comes with a pot of cream liner and a brush with which to apply it. I am used to applying cream liner, so that didn’t bother me at all. In fact, I really liked the ease of application and the amount of control I had with the cream vs. a liquid liner. I prefer a thicker line and felt that this cream formula gave an even and long lasting finish. The lashes that came with this set were nice. They’re the “wispie” style that I tend to prefer because they add drama while looking somewhat natural. The lashes stayed put the entire evening. Removal of the liner was a bit more time consuming since the formula was heavier than the other two liners.

And the winner is….

Drum roll, please! I love the concept of magnetic lashes. While I really liked the Eyelure lashes themselves (the best of the bunch I’d say), I found that the three layers of liner was too time consuming and gave a chunky feel.

The Kiss lashes were pretty and I liked that fact that they had five magnets on each lash. The liner application, while convenient at one coat, felt too weak. My lashes were lifting by the end of the night.

So, I would have to say that the Ardell lashes are the winner! The lashes themselves were natural-looking yet added some drama. I really liked the cream application that gave good control and shape to the cat eye look that I prefer!

Now, I will say that you can mix and match the liners and lashes. I tried combining different lashes with all the liners and they all worked together! So, if you prefer a certain type of lash, you purchase those separately from the liner that you like. It’s nice that all three companies do sell their liners and lashes individually like that; you don’t have to buy the prepackaged sets of liners with lashes. I hope that you enjoyed my review. If you end up trying any of these lashes, please let me know what you think!

I have been so curious about these magnetic lashes and made the leap to try the Ardell lashes you recommended Sunita. I am all thumbs and find regular false lashes too cumbersome to apply. I figured being in quarantine will be a good time to practice getting these lashes on correctly- will let you know how it goes! Your blog is a ray of sunshine in this unprecedented and surreal time we are facing- thank you!
