Black Lives Matter

Fashion and beauty is all well and good, but there are so many more important messages that should be disseminated and take precedence on social media right now. It’s time for us all to listen, learn, stand together and evolve…

Dear friends, I know that you must feel it too…My soul is so heavy after the heartbreaking events of the past few days, weeks, months, years and decades. George Floyd’s violent murder at at the hands of a police officer has, rightfully, shocked the entire collective consciousness of our nation and the world. I still recall the senseless and barbaric beating of Rodney King almost thirty years ago as if it were yesterday. I was a college student at the time and I was horrified. There were riots in the streets then and there are riots in the streets three decades later. We, as a nation, have evolved technologically over the ensuing years, but I feel as though we have simultaneously lost our moral compass both socially and spiritually. The senseless, wanton and egregious killing of our brothers and sisters is deplorable and all the more poignant as so many of those deaths were at the hands of those sworn to protect us.

We must all fight this injustice as if George, Ahmaud, Breonna, Rodney (and so many nameless others) were our own flesh and blood. I do not purport to understand or stand in the shoes of those who deal with this reality day in and day out, but I do see you, I do hear you, I do want to help in any way that I can.

I think the first step is to teach and truly inculcate brotherly love and compassion within the hearts of our children. We need to educate by example and genuinely have profound and heartfelt conversations. We must “be the change we wish to see in the world.” Please also consider signing the “Justice for George Floyd” petition and donating online at change.org
