    Carrot Ginger Soup

Dear friends, I got this delicious, satisfying and healthy recipe for “Carrot Ginger Soup” from the mom of one of my son’s friends. She is an excellent cook in her own right and I knew that if she was recommending a recipe to me, it would be good! She ripped it out of a cooking magazine a few years ago, so I’m afraid that I can’t give credit to the original cook who came up with this recipe. I have served this clementine-hued soup several times over the past few months and it is loved by young and old alike. It goes well with petite baked mushroom sandwiches, crab cakes (recipes to come in the future) and a fresh kale salad. The recipe calls for chicken broth, but it can be made vegetarian by substituting vegetable broth in its place. Please note that cooking the onions does take a while, but I promise you that the depth of flavor that it provides is well worth the investment of time. I hope that you enjoy it as much as my family does!

    Les Macarons // Winter Pastels

    Shop My Look Here:

Sweater: Pom pom puff sleeve sweater // Skirt: Pleated beige skirt // Bag: Pearl bag // Boots: Bluish-gray knee high boots // Hat: Baker boy cap

Dear friends, the winter doldrums may have us reaching for inky blacks, burnished rusts and charcoal grays in our wardrobe selections. However, why not mix it up with some soft, pastel tones? The shades that I’m wearing here are muted, but have character. The hues remind me of dainty little macarons! I’ve always thought that bluish-gray and beige look beautiful and elegant when paired. My pom pom sweater looks very luxe, but only costs $27! I had been eyeing the boots in this most unusual shade (aptly called “Gray Iris”) for months and they finally went on sale. The addition of the pearly handbag creates an eclectic yet eminently wearable look that will take you through winter and into spring.

  • WEEKLY SALES

    Weekly Sales & Deals // Jan 27- Feb 2

    Shop My Look Here:

Shoes: Leopard Pumps (on sale for $56 right now) // Snakeskin version for ($33) here // Plethora of other colors (not yet on sale) here.

Dear friends, there are lots of great sales this week. My favorite pumps (here in a leopard iteration) are on sale right now. They have a beautiful silhouette, are very flattering to the leg and they look very similar to a style by a certain high end shoe designer. This style is available in a plethora of other colors (which I’ve linked above). However, those are not all on sale right now. FYI, they do run a bit small, so I would recommend that you size up by 1/2 a size. Check out the weekly list of sales below. Happy (bargain) shopping!

Boys to Men // Masculine style

    Shop My Look Here:

Coat: Tuxedo coat // Top: White blouse with removable neck-tie // Pants: Red lace cropped pants // Shoes: Plaid pumps (old from Ann Taylor). Similar here // Headband: Rosette style headband

Dear friends, womenswear inspired by men’s styling has been popular throughout history. Think of the androgynous flappers in the 20’s and you get the idea. A completely masculine look can sometimes look too severe and contrived, so it’s nice to add a feminine touch to a look otherwise inspired by the boys. I’ve paired the blouse with a necktie and the supremely soft velvet tuxedo coat here with a stylish and comfortable pair of cropped lace pants. I recently purchased the pants and tuxedo jacket on sale. They’re still available. The pants are 60% off the already reduced sale price (and they’re also available in several other colors, including a vibrant teal and a gold-touched peach shade) and the coat is on sale for more than 50% off its original price! I’ve paired the look with plaid pumps, which are another riff on menswear.

Sweater: Cream one-shoulder sweater // Earrings: cameo danglers // Headband: Old. Similar here

Sweaters are a fact of everyday life here in the chilly climes of Michigan! I’ve always been of the mind that if you’re going to have to wear one it might as well be cute and eye-catching! The cream number that I’m wearing here is cozy and stylish and the cable knit finish is striking. I love the one shoulder silhouette, it comes in several other colors and it’s only $35! And don’t you love the cameo earrings I’ve paired it with? They are only $3!! I’ve compiled a collage of nine other fun and warm sweaters at a great price point at the end of this post. Dear friends, the January sales continue in full swing. Retailers are trying to sell off their stock of winter clothing to herald their spring collections. This is a great opportunity to pick up those practical coats and winter accessories and those not-so-practical holiday outfits and shoes at a fraction of their original cost! My look is from the Halogen x Atlantic-Pacific collection at Nordstrom. I had been eyeing the eye-catching blazer and striking pants for a couple of months and they finally went down in price. Happy (bargain) shopping!

Bag: Woven small pouch bag // Jacket: Plaid blazer // Blouse: Lacy sheer blouse (I added a white tank top) // Hat: Baker boy cap // Earrings: Crystal hoop earrings.

Dear friends, as promised earlier this week, I have linked the details of the feminine, lacy blouse I’m wearing above. It goes so beautifully with this textured, tweedy jacket to create a look that I feel is distinctly French. The cute baker boy cap adds a playful and jaunty touch and the woven pouch bag is a practical addition. The best thing about this look is that the blouse and jacket are less than $50 (total)! I’ve shown some other recent favorite clothing and accessory items in the collage below, and they’re all $50 or less!
